So Much to Do in Barbados!
Posted on 12/11/2017
Barbados is one of the Caribbean’s leading tourist destinations, known for five-star luxury, perfect beaches and beautiful golf courses. There's good reason the island is growing in popularity among Canadian travelers.
But while guests could spend each and every day sunning on the sand or playing the back nine, visitors can also take in the island’s unique cultural and tropical setting.
For a change of pace, stop in at Hunte’s Gardens. It is locally owned and, in addition to plant life, gives visitors a chance to see monkeys and hummingbirds. It’s an ideal setting for a picnic, and admission includes snacks and rum punch as well as access to the gardens.
Rum tasting at St. Nicholas Abbey
The St. Nicholas Abbey is a rum distillery in a historic plantation home that dates back more than 350 years. There are several larger options but the abbey avoids distilling in large batches. It prefers more traditional production, and its setting offers a unique tasting opportunity.
Strolling through the distillery on the two-hour tours, guests wander through the house for a look at a museum full of antiques as well as the gardens and orchards. Of course, rum tastings are offered all along the way!
Seeking out culture in Barbados is a worthy endeavor but don’t miss some of the island’s most striking scenery.
Photographers will love snapping pictures of the unique rock formations on this stretch of the island’s west coast. Bathsheba Beach is also known for its sensational surf and is a great place to fly kites and have a picnic. (Sadly, the beach here is not good for is swimming, which is unsafe.)
Carlisle Bay is an ideal stop for those looking for a place to swim.
There are six shipwrecks in the area, which make it a great spot for snorkeling. The calm waters also provide an excellent place to kayak, jet ski, horseback ride and more. It’s also great for children, with small waves and a clean, sandy beach.
