Once again, Sandos Caracol Eco Resort has passed its Rainforest Alliance verification with ease.

Unsure what that means?

Well, Sandos Hotels & Resorts details what the Rainforest Alliance is, and what makes Sandos Caracol so eco-friendly.

“With a history dating back over 30 years, the Rainforest Alliance is a thriving organization that strives to prevent deforestation and environmental destruction across the globe by helping farmers, foresters, travel-related businesses and other industries to channel their eco practices toward greater sustainable development,” per a Sandos blogger.

They have strict standards, and Sanods Caracol does its part to ensure it meets all the checklists for environmental sustainability.

On this Playa del Carmen property, there are a number of eco-friendly programs and activities to take part in.

For starters, there are animal rescue programs to help white-tail deer and sea turtle nests, as well as the “Help Us Help Others” program that allows guests to donate items such as school supplies and clothing to local communities.

Additionally, there is the Xcalacoco Experience, which focuses “on the environment and Mayan culture, with eco-tours, cultural workshops, nighttime Mayan shows, Mayan cooking, eco activities and so much more,” according to a Sandos blogger.

Sandos is also big on recycling, reducing and reusing, where among the four resorts in Mexico they were able to “recycle well over 200 tons of material.”
