Chic in the City: New York Fashion Week
Posted on 09/06/2017
It’s no secret that New Yorkers dress to impress. From glam to grunge, all it takes is one stroll through SoHo to get a taste of the eclectic style this city exudes.
Along with Paris, Milan and London, the city-that-never-sleeps is one of the four major fashion-forward destinations that host semi-annual fashion weeks.
The much anticipated New York Fashion Week will be held September 7-14, 2017. Whether or not you’re dying to see the latest Tom Ford designs or the outrageous concepts Kanye West has in store for attendees, chances are this posh week will be one to remember.
From the photogs and bloggers to the aspiring models and style aficionados, we’ve rounded up the hottest New York City spots to eat, drink and be fashionable during this high energy, star-studded week.
Put on your snazziest outfit and get ready for the spotlight, because you never know who you’ll run in to.
This innovative Japanese restaurant is situated underneath the trendy Dream Downtown and offers guests an extravagant atmosphere that mirrors the creativity of its dishes. Standout items include nori salmon belly tacos with truffle sauce and king crab watermelon salad.
Kick off fashion week with Megu’s famous happy hour. Swing by between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to sip the NYFW cocktail, Ready-to-Wear with Beluga vodka, di Saronno, yuzu, mint and cucumber served on the rocks.
For creative cocktails, a dynamic wine list that includes the curious Orange wine and delicate soup dumplings, Pinch Chinese is the place to be. This stylish restaurant is embellished with splashes of red, while bold artistic collages of faces decorate its walls.
Special NYFW cocktails include the White After Labor Day with baijiu, soursop and bubbly and Remember the Andes (Mints) with cognac, crème de cacao, mint and soda.
For sophisticated, haute Indian cuisine, look no further than the recently opened Rahi. Chef Chintan Pandya’s menu transforms classic recipes into next-level Indian dishes for the modern New Yorker looking to broaden his or her palate.
An example? Rahi’s exquisite rendition of Raita, Kheera on the Rocks, which is made with grilled cucumber that has been hollowed and filled with Greek yogurt and dehydrated pineapple, served on a smoking bed of dry ice and topped with edible flowers. It’s a work of art.
Located in the chic Upper East Side is Philippe, the Beijing-style Chinese dining haven known for its VIP clientele. Fashion week heavy-weights including Rihanna, Beyonce, Anna Wintour and Vera Wang are just a few of the stars who frequent the restaurant, post-runway shows.
The elegant menu offers the famous Peking duck carved tableside and served with house-made pancakes as well as a popular chicken satay.
Go all out and order dessert because, with choices that include the fortune cookie red velvet cake and the cotton candy baked Alaska, which is set ablaze at the table, you can’t go wrong.
Located in Chelsea, this modern Japanese restaurant prides itself on the visual artistry presented in its tasting menu. Satisfy your hunger with seasonal multi-course menus, which offer dishes such as grilled black cod and inventive sushi including flash grilled Washu beef with sea urchin.
Relax post-fashion show in the Zen-like environment and be sure to order the spectacular "UNKAI" Sesame Pudding for dessert—a treat inspired by the MET Museum's recent Rei Kawakubo exhibit.
Think: a rich pudding revealed after a server pours a matcha latte over the top of a whimsical cotton candy "cloud.”
The Sanctuary Hotel is home to Tender, a hot spot known for its hearty steaks and innovative selection of sushi. Looking to casually bump into some celebs? Keep an eye out for Olivia Munn, Joe Jonas and Kristin Cavallari, all of whom have been spotted here.
The menu features indulgent bites such as avocado fries and baked crab hand rolls. For your main course, opt for the Mahi Mahi with spinach, enoki mushrooms and miso broth or the tender wagyu burger with aged cheddar, sautéed onions and fries.
